Since 2000, the B2 federal highway has bypassed the village through the 2.4-kilometer Farchant Tunnel. Since then, the village has been noticeably quieter. Houses in the main village and in the eastern district of Mühldörfl are popular with families who want to live close to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Around 3,600 people live in Farchant. The traditional costume association (Volkstrachtenverein) has existed since 1913, the TSV sports club has over 1,200 members, and a new maypole is raised every four years.
